Kitten Season in High Gear PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Tuesday, 16 June 2009

It's official -- kitten season is here, and going strong once again.  In May we set a new single-day record admitting 114 cats and kittens for spay/Neuter at our montly Care Day (another 10 for medical care). Although only 2 weeks had elapsed since our big May event, we still admitted 67 cats and kittens for spay/neuter at our June Care Day (another 6 for medical care).

Remember, get those kittens spayed/neutered before adoption. FBI's vets will perform surgeries on healthy kittens as small as 2 lbs., which is about 2 months of age.

HSHC & FBI Offer Reward for information on cat killings PDF Print E-mail

Sunday, 03 August 2008

As many in central Indiana saw on the news , 4 cats were brutally beaten and killed in Cicero, IN the week of July 27. Cicero is a small community about 25 miles north of Indianapolis. Three out of the 4 cats were indoor/outdoor pets, but it doesn't matter what they were, they were living creatures.

There has been a proven link between people who commit violence against animals, and those who go on to commit violence against people. Injury or killing animals is often just a stepping stone for people to "move up" to hurting other people. Communities must not turn a blind eye to this kind of violence if they want to protect themselves, their pets and their children from people who would brutalize the innocent and the helpless.

To make a strong stand against this kind of violence, Humane Society for Hamilton County and Feral Bureau of Indiana (FBI) have joined together offering a total reward of up to $1500 for information leading to arrest and conviction in the brutal killings of the Cicero cats. We are posting flyers in Cicero, in the area of the killings. We hope that this reward will give more emphasis to the value of the lives of these and all cats,  even if they live outside.

If you have any information, contact the Cicero Police Department at 317-773-1282.

If you would like to donate to the reward fund, please use the convenient "Donations" box on the left bar of the home page, or you may send a check to:

On Sunday, March 9th, Indianapolis Animal Care and Control (IACC) and the Humane Society of Indianapolis (HSI) signed a Memorandum Of Understanding that stemmed from HSI's earlier announcement that they would no longer accept stray animals, and only accept owner surrendered animals under certain conditions, and only after being counseled by HSI.

Nice day for spay/neuter! PDF Print E-mail

Wednesday, 12 March 2008

Our CareDay for March followed a day of snow, heavy in places. But despite the snowfall, the sun came out and it was a great day for spay/Neuter! We admitted 71 cats to our clinic! For our two very talented volunteer vets, this was barely a workout.  But for people bringing cats from as far away as Bargersville, Rensselar and Muncie area, it was a bit more work, but well worth the effort. Several gorgeous, friendly barn cats were placed with an Indy-area adoption group and are well on their way toward living the good life in new indoor homes. The FBI strongly believes that whenever possible, friendly free-roaming cats should be gotten "off the streets" and placed into indoor homes.

Many thanks to our great volunteers who keep things running smoothly, keep everyone well fed and make it a smooth, safe and FUN experience!
